The Tents of Hope campaign (www.tentsofhope.org) was created to inspire and activate people to respond to the crisis in Darfur, Sudan by creating tents that are unique works of art and ongoing focal points within communities for learning about, assisting and establishing relationships with the people of Sudan.

Designed to last one year, Tents of Hope already has nearly 200 cities in 43 states participating through their churches, synagogues, schools and universities; and 30 major partner organizations including Save Darfur, United Church of Christ, Amnesty International, Lost Boys Rebuilding Southern Sudan, Genocide Intervention Network, American Jewish World Service, Church World Service, Lutheran World Relief and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.
The campaign will culminate with a multi-day event displaying the tents in Washington DC from November 6-9, 2008.
What can you do?
Help the Tents of Hope campaign raise funds through cell phone recycling with ECO-CELL.
The Symbolism of the Tent
Communities throughout the nation are creating, painting and displaying their tents as symbols of hope to identify with the refugees of Darfur. The tents mirror what the refugees use throughout Sudan and neighboring Chad.
The tents, though hardly a replacement, for their real homes, provide the only shelter and haven they know; many people are not even fortunate enough to have a tent at all. Through the Tents of Hope campaign these tents represent a connection with the refugees and let them know that there are numerous communities here who care and are trying to help.
These tents are an ideal tool for garnering media attention, promoting social advocacy, and raising funds for a number of humanitarian relief projects such as the Crop Walk, Heifer Project, the Jewish World Watch Solar Cooker, Save Darfur, “Change the World--It Just Takes Cents” and others.
